Gary C. Humes passed away March 25, 2011 in Pueblo, Colorado. Gary was born February 5, 1950 in Salida, Colorado. He graduated from Western State College in Gunnison with a B.A. in Music Education in 1972 and with a M.A. in School Administration in 1981. He did post graduate work at UNC in Greeley. Gary retired in 2004 after working six years as a music/band director and 24 years as a school administrator in northeastern Colorado and Trinidad. During his 14 years with School District #1, Gary was the assistant principal at Trinidad High School and principal at East St. Elementary and Trinidad Middle School. Gary had a passion for music of the big band era. Upon arriving in Trinidad in 1991, he co-founded the local longtime band “The Trinidaires”. Gary played tenor sax and served as the band’s manager.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Joy Humes and a twin brother, Lary. He is survived by a sister, Sharon (Dwight) Lewellwn, a niece, Shira Lewellen, a nephew, Mark (Anna)Lewellen, all of Denver and a cousin Georga (Don) Davis, of Salida.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, March 31, 2011 in the First Christian Church, 200 S. Walnut in Trinidad. Private interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Salida, Colorado.
