LaVerne Wiley Gill

LaVerne Wiley Gill, 84, of Avondale, passed away March 15, 2012. LaVerne was born November 21, 1927 in Pueblo to Robert Brooks and Beulah (Malone) Wiley, graduated from Avondale High School and Colorado A&M (CSU-Ft. Collins), and did graduate work at Univ. of New Mexico. After working in several states as a lab technician, and traveling Europe one summer by bicycle, LaVerne returned to Avondale to marry Don and to join him in farming. Following Don’s untimely death, LaVerne continued the farming life she loved for more than 40 years before retiring for health reasons at the age of 79. LaVerne was active at Divine Science Church of Pueblo, and with Sweet Adelines for many years. Preceded in death by her husband, Donald T. Gill, and a brother, James Brooks Wiley (in infancy). Survived by sister, Eula Strayer of Westcliffe, brother and sister-in-law, Bob & Rama Lee Wiley, of Boone, and by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
