John N. “Jack” Bearden passed away June 18th, 2015 at his home in Trinidad, Colorado. Jack was born in Trinidad on July 11, 1927 to Edwin R. and Thelma Turner Bearden and was a lifelong resident. He was a member of the third generation of the Turner family to be born in Trinidad following their settling here in 1882. After graduating from Trinidad High School, Jack was appointed to the US Naval Academy at Annapolis by J. Edgar Chenoweth. His eyesight prevented him from continuing a Naval Career so he returned to Colorado where he received a Bachelor’s Degree from the Univ. of Colorado. Mr. Bearden then returned to Trinidad and joined his father in the Insurance business which still operates today. Mr. Bearden’s generosity and service to the community was legendary, even though his modesty attempted to hide it. Among the many organizations and Boards he served on and supported were the TSJC Educational Foundation, Carnegie Public Library, A.R. Mitchell Museum, Stonewall Country Club. The Chamber of Commerce presented him with the J. Edgar Chenoweth Award at its 100th Annual Meeting in 2007. Mr. Bearden was preceded in death by his siblings, Edwin Turner Bearden and Sally Bearden Rowland. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Catharine Walter Bearden, children John (Lauren) Bearden of CA, Juliet (Mike) Dixon of Trinidad, a sister Sue Bearden Saunders of AZ, brother-in-law Dr. Jack Rowland of Salida. He adored his grandchildren: Cassie Dixon, Robert Aaron Dixon, Brett Bearden Dixon, Ian Schine Bearden and Avery Catharine Bearden as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Private family services will be held. Donations in memory of Mr. Bearden may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences at DavisMortuary.com
