Daniel A. Gale, Col. U.S. Army (Ret.) passed away, Jan 16, 2018. Dan was born on Sept 9, 1928 in Lansdowne, PA, to Edison and Dorothea Gale. Following high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Army serving in occupied Japan during World War II. The GI Bill enabled him to attend Pueblo Junior College (PCC) and the University of Colorado, where he received a master’s degree in education. He served in the Korean conflict, returning to Pueblo to teach in District 60 for 8 years, while remaining an Army Reservist. Called back to active duty, Dan served another 15 years including two tours in Vietnam. He retired in 1978 from the U.S. Army as a Combat Engineer, with a distinguished career spanning 31 years. Col. Gale received numerous commendations and medals including the Silver Star and four Bronze Stars. Dan was a 67 year member of Silver State Lodge #95 AF&AM, was active in the Pueblo Veterans Council, PCC Foundation, and the Pueblo County Democrats. He was a proud supporter of many environmental organizations, of Amnesty International and a member of the ACLU. Dan was recently honored as Honorary Grand Marshall in both the Pueblo Veterans’ Day Parade, and the Avondale Veterans’ Parade. His final act of humanitarian service was as an organ/tissue donor.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Margaret Ann, son Dan, Jr. and 2 brothers. His survivors include his daughter Jane (Roy) Wiley; grandsons, Nick and Danny; numerous nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.
At his request, cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Dan’s Life will be held in March in Pueblo with notification at that time. In lieu of food and flowers the family suggests contributions in Daniel’s name be made to the Pueblo Community College Foundation or to the Pueblo Veterans Council.
