Gloria Jean Collins

Gloria, Jean Collins, 90, passed into the arms of her Savior August 13, 2024. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 10, 1933, the daughter of Adam Gresker and Hanna Kalis. Her family moved to northern Wisconsin in 1938, where she attended Marinette teacher’s school for two years. Her long teaching career began in a rural elementary school with grades 1-8. Gloria met her future husband through a REA pen pal program. On June 19th of 1954 she was married to Marvin G Collins at Mountain View California near the Naval air base where he was stationed. Both her and Marvin earned bachelor’s degrees from Platteville Teacher’s College. Gloria and her husband welcomed their son Lynn David Collins into the world while in Platteville. During the summers they both studied at the University of Northern Colorado where they both earned master’s degrees in teaching before relocating to Eureka California to new teaching jobs. Gloria taught grades 1-3 and Marvin taught industrial arts in Eureka High School. They both enjoyed living by the ocean, exploring light houses and ocean scenery, walking among the giant redwoods as well as discovery walks with their son and dog. They spent their summers traveling and visiting family in Wisconsin. Marvin and Gloria built their dream solar house in the redwoods, where they had a large garden, and where Gloria enjoyed using her decorating skills and graciously hosting guests. After 30 years of teaching, they both retired and found a new home in Pueblo, Colorado where they were both active in the Pueblo West Seniors Association and the Westminster Presbyterian Church, where they made many friends. They had both enjoyed their granddaughter Teal as she grew up. Later in life Gloria was a loving caretaker when her husband developed Alzheimer’s. Gloria got to spend time with her new great grandson, Oliver, which brought her much joy. Proceeding Gloria in death were her husband Marvin Collins, and brother-in-law Leland Fuelle. She is survived by her sister, Doris Fuelle; son Lynn Collins, daughter-in- law Nan Scully-Collins; granddaughter, Teal Rose Gordon; sisters-in-law, Dorthy Swanson and Margie Klentz. Gloria was a lifelong lover of animals and made sure all of the birds and squirrels in the neighborhood were well feed, they will miss her. She will be truly missed and cherished by all that knew her.  Gloria was laid to rest next to the beloved Marvin in the Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado.   A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Primrose Retirement Community, 5055 Outlook Blvd in Pueblo.   Those wishing to make memorial contributions are encouraged to do so to the Sangre de Cristo Hospice, 1920 Valley Drive, Pueblo Blvd Way, Pueblo, CO  81008.  Online coldolences are available at DavisMortuary.com
