Kenneth R. Espinoza

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Father, Husband, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Friend. Kenneth R Espinoza unexpectedly said his final goodbye on March 7th, 2025 at 67 years old.

Kenneth was known to his family and friends as Ken or Kenny, he was a devoted family man who always bragged about his kids and grandkids. Everyone would agree that Ken was always willing to help anyone. This was most apparent in his career as a Police officer. Ken spent 30 years on the Pueblo Police Department. Within his career he had many accomplishments advancing his way up the ranks. Ken spent four years as a patrol officer before moving into the investigations division as a detective. As a detective he received a wealth of training and assisted in solving many high-profile cases in Pueblo. Ken was always a man of many talents while in his career as a police officer he held other part time positions with the U.S. Marshals, District Attorney’s Office, as well as the Pueblo County Coroner's office. In April 2001 he attained the rank of corporal and remained in investigations until October of 2003 at this time he was assigned to the traffic division where he investigated hit and run accidents until he was promoted to Sergeant on February 2005. Ken also was the vice-president of both the Police Benevolent Association and the Police Union. Within his career he received multiple commendations and a medal of valor. Upon retirement from the Pueblo Police department, he continued his investigation career as the Deputy Chief Coroner for Pueblo County in which he just received his 20 year. This honor was bestowed upon him because of his dedication to training. Ken was certified with the American Board of Medico Legal Death Investigators and was excepted as part of D-Mort NDMS a Department of Homeland Security. His love for people truly shows through in his commendations and dedication to a career he loved.

Ken will be sadly missed by many people. If you mention his name in common conversation, it is a good possibility that most will have a story to tell about him. The friendships he developed carried on throughout his life he was still on a regular basis meeting up with what he called his coffee clutches one friend group from the police department and one group of friends retired from the coroner's office.

Ken leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years Kathy Espinoza; his daughter, Leah Urrutia (Arthur); his sons, Paul Sanchez, and Nathan Sanchez; sisters, Geraldine Messer, Debby Johnson (Craig), and Pauline Valliche; grandchildren, Marrissa (Evan), Mallissa, Rianna, Matthew (Breanna), Mercedes, Emilio, Isaac (Silvee), Alaina, and Aliesha as well as great-grandchildren and all his friends and extended family.

Ken was preceded in death by his father, Fred Espinoza: mother, Juanita McClearn (Jim); brother, Bob Espinoza; brother-in-law, Gordon Messer and sister-in-law Ethel Espinoza.
