Marianne Mishmash

Marianne Mishmash (Smith) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, February 26th at Life Care Center of Pueblo. She was 89. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Beverly Schact (Smith) and her husband Robert Eugene Mishmash. She is survived by her children, Rodney (Laurie), Pueblo, Roger (Valerie), Pueblo, Randy (Suzi), Salida, Annette (Carla), Colorado Springs, her nephew Jim Schact (Gretchen) of Tacoma, WA, her grandchildren, Crystal, Tiffany, Wesley, Stephen, Mark, Elise and Paige and one great granddaughter.

Marianne was born in La Junta to the late John and Adele Smith on January 5, 1936 but lived most of her life in Pueblo. She was the eldest of two sisters. As a child she contracted polio, but never let the disability it caused keep her from doing things. She graduated as valedictorian from Centennial High School and was the editor of the school newspaper. Marianne, following in her mother’s footsteps, attended Colorado College where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and studied education. She graduated in 1958 and went on to teach at Corwin Middle School.

Marianne met Robert Eugene Mishmash through the Pueblo Ski Club. They were married on December 21, 1961. Together they enjoyed skiing at Monarch ski area and were early stockholders in the ski resort. They owned a cabin in Maysville where they enjoyed many happy times with their children and in their retirement, exploring the mountains and visiting with their Maysville friends. Marianne raised four children and was always a good sport when they did things like leaving a dead rattlesnake on the steps. She was an optimist and looked on the bright side of things.

Upon her husband’s retirement from CF&I in 1983, Marianne and Bob started Bob’s Bicycles in Pueblo. Marianne was a member of Altrusa for many years. Upon her retirement from the shop in 1994, Marianne volunteered at the El Pueblo Museum. After Bob’s death, Marianne moved to Primrose Retirement Community, where she lived until just before her death. Her friend Francis played a special role in the last year of her life, helping Marianne in many ways.
