Mary Ann Fisher passed away April 28, 2021, at 86 years of age. Mary Ann was born on December 27, 1934, in Gunnison, Colorado.
Mary Ann’s life was filled with obstacles. She was born during a time when little was understood about Developmental Disabilities. Society also insured her choices were limited. Her life has paved the way for many individuals who have a physical, intellectual and or emotional developmental disability that impact their daily lives.
Mary Ann loved music. One of the most amazing aspects of Mary was her ability to play any instrument without having had any formal training. Mary enjoyed playing Stars and Stripes forever, along with many songs on the popular charts. She played the organ, banjo, cymbals, and Xylophone. She had perfect pitch and we often tuned the piano to her liking.
Mary Ann is survived by her sister and Legal Guardian Wilma Fisher and nephew Mark Bickel. She was proceeded in death by her Mother, Ann Fisher, Step Mother Grace Fisher, and Father, Michael J. Fisher, sister, Sue Ellen Bickel.
Sincere thanks are being sent to Harmony House staff who have cared for Mary Ann for so long. Special thanks to the Hospice nurses, especially Amanda McCain, and Amber, along with the ministers who called often to check on family. Thanks go out to the many individuals too numerous to name, who over the years have provided Mary and her family a light through the darkness of Ableism.
Mary Ann will lie in state on Monday from 1pm until 5 pm on Monday at the Davis Mortuary. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 4th, 2021, at 11:00 am at the Roselawn Cemetery.
Donations in Mary’s name may be sent to Advocacy Denver and the ARC in Pueblo. In Mary’s memory, please be kind to folks who are different from you as making a new friend brings the heart such joy.
