Richard Patrick Decker, son of Anne and Don Decker, died January 28, 2024. He is survived by: his children, Tyree Forbes, Terri (Duane) Marsh, Patrick Decker, and Cyndi Decker; his stepchildren, Liz (Mel), Dennis (Mary), Stephanie and Clarence; siblings, Eddie (Debbie) Decker and Beth Olsen; grandchildren, Nathan, Brittany, Daryn & Zachary Marsh; his Uncle Pat (Nedra) Lara and Aunt Tina Koukol; and many first and second cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Janice; brother, Robert (Sharon); and sister, JoAnne.
Richard was born at home, in Pueblo, May 21, 1939, with his Aunt Bee in attendance. He spent his childhood and youth in Rye, CO, lying about his age (and with his older sister, JoAnne’s, signature) to drop out of high school and join the U.S. Navy. He joined at 17, in 1956, earned his GED and rose to 2nd Class Petty Officer, earned a Good Conduct Medal in 1959, and was honorably discharged April, 1960.
Upon leaving the U.S. Navy, Richard earned his electrician’s license and worked predominantly along the Western Slope—Steamboat Springs, Eagle. He worked with his brother, Eddie, in Grants, NM. He earned his Master Electrician license and retired as a Master Electrician with Pueblo City School District 60.
Richard liked horses, western music and leaves behind his beloved shih tzu, Shalawala.
Richard will be sent home with a military funeral to be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Rd., Colorado Springs, CO. A reception will follow at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 2561 Vinewood Ln., Pueblo, at 2:30 p.m.
